LOOM'S CARE & MAINTENANCE GUIDE

LOOM products are made almost entirely by hand and created largely from natural materials. Their surfaces and fibers will respond to light, air, touch, humidity, and daily use. Thoughtful care supports longevity while allowing each piece to develop its own character and patina. Be sure to always follow the product-specific care card where it differs from this general guide.

GENERAL CARE

  • Keep products away from prolonged direct sunlight, heating and cooling vents, fireplaces, and extreme temperature or humidity swings.
  • Use coasters, trivets, placemats, felt pads, and protective liners. Never place hot, wet, sharp, or abrasive objects directly on a surface.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, white, absorbent cloth. Do not rub. Test any cleaning method in an inconspicuous area first.
  • Do not use bleach, ammonia, silicone sprays, strong solvents, abrasive powders, scouring pads, steam cleaners, or household polishes unless specifically approved for the material.
  • Lift products when moving them; do not drag. Recheck hardware and floor protection periodically.

solid wood & wood finishes

  • Dust with a soft, dry cloth. For routine cleaning, use a barely damp cloth, then dry immediately in the direction of the grain.
  • Maintain stable indoor humidity, ideally about 35–55%. Seasonal expansion, contraction, and small checks are natural characteristics of solid wood.
  • Wipe liquid promptly and avoid leaving damp objects on the surface. Rotate objects periodically so light exposure and aging remain more even.
  • For oil-and-wax finishes, condition only with the product recommended on the care card. A surface that looks dry or dull may need conditioning; frequency depends on use and climate. Do not wax lacquered, painted, bleached, or otherwise sealed finishes unless specifically instructed.
  • Contact LOOM before sanding, refinishing, treating rings, or using commercial scratch-removal products.

handwoven wool rugs & textiles

  • Vacuum rugs regularly on low suction without a beater bar. Vacuum both sides occasionally and rotate the rug to balance traffic and light exposure.
  • Initial shedding is normal for many wool products. Clip loose fibers carefully; do not pull them.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean white cloth, working from the outside inward. Avoid over-wetting and do not scrub.
  • Use a rug pad appropriate for the floor surface. Professional cleaning by a specialist experienced with handwoven, naturally dyed wool is recommended.
  • Keep textiles dry. Store clean, fully dry pieces rolled or loosely folded in breathable material, with appropriate moth prevention.

upholstery & cushions

  • Vacuum gently with an upholstery attachment. Rotate and fluff loose cushions regularly to encourage even wear and restore loft.
  • Blot spills immediately. Follow the cleaning code and fiber-specific instructions supplied with the fabric; when in doubt, use a professional upholstery cleaner.
  • Do not unzip or machine wash covers unless the care label expressly permits it. Protect upholstery from prolonged sun, pets, sharp objects, and dye transfer from clothing.
  • Keep textiles dry. Store clean, fully dry pieces rolled or loosely folded in breathable material, with appropriate moth prevention.

lighting

  • Turn off and unplug lighting before cleaning or changing bulbs. Allow bulbs and fixtures to cool completely.
  • Use only the bulb type and maximum wattage listed on the fixture. Installation and hardwiring must be completed by a qualified electrician in accordance with local codes.
  • Dust shades and bases gently with a soft, dry cloth or low-suction brush attachment. Do not saturate woven shades or use cleaners on clay, wood, metal, or textile components unless approved.

baskets & natural fibers

  • Dust with a soft brush or low-suction vacuum. Keep baskets dry and away from prolonged sun, moisture, and high humidity.
  • Do not overload, sit on, or use handles to lift contents beyond the intended capacity. Natural fibers may soften, darken, or shift slightly with age and use.
