Deepening our emphasis on sustainability and impact through custom design

Posted by Mae Link on

If there’s anything the last few years have taught us, it’s that we need to take care of our inner worlds, to include our spirits, our minds, and our dwellings. The places where we find respite and comfort.

For LOOM, the pandemic challenges also pushed us to think deeply about sustainability for the long-term. Prior to the pandemic, we purchased most of our inventory in bulk and stocked hundreds of varieties of back stock at our North Carolina base. That came with a hefty price tag, and not just the monetary kind. It also carried the environmental cost from transportation and excess packaging.

To reduce our carbon footprint, we are now focusing more on custom design offerings. This has numerous benefits for our master craftspeople abroad, our customers, and the longevity of our business. Ultimately, we are purchasing textiles that have a guaranteed home, and we’re also able to provide a steady workflow and income for our designers.

What does this mean for you? Ultimately, you can dream up a design (or we can work with you!), to create a one-of-a-kind, beautifully crafted rug, made with all natural fibers and dyes. We aim to provide an affordable, ethical option for bespoke textiles for homes and businesses in the US. Your purchase helps preserve indigenous weaving traditions and supports families in remote places, where there are fewer opportunities for economic and social mobility.

We look forward to making your rug design dreams come true. To get started, get in touch here
